The Australian Government has announced the opening of Round 3 of the Support at Home Thin Markets Grants, with more than $311 million available during the 2026–27 financial year to improve aged care services in communities where access remains limited.
The funding aims to strengthen the delivery of aged care services in areas where workforce shortages, geographical barriers or limited provider availability can make it more difficult for older Australians to receive the support they need.
Supporting Older Australians in Underserved Communities
The grants are designed to help eligible aged care providers improve access to services for older Australians living in areas where the aged care market is considered “thin” or where demand exceeds existing capacity.
Funding may be used to support:
- aged care services in regional, rural and remote communities;
- specialised services for older people with diverse backgrounds or complex care needs;
- improved access to services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; and
- initiatives that strengthen aged care delivery in locations experiencing workforce shortages or limited service availability.
The initiative forms part of the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment to improving equitable access to quality aged care, regardless of where people live.
Applications Close on 26 November 2026
Eligible providers interested in applying for funding should review the program guidelines and application requirements before the closing date.
