
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has launched a series of training materials to support:
- older adults, their families, and caregivers in understanding the upcoming changes
- service providers in implementing new systems and processes
- workers in recognizing their new responsibilities.
These educational modules will facilitate a better understanding of the changes introduced by the new Aged Care Act and their significance for you. You can download a checklist of training opportunities to help you track your learning.
Module 1: Your guide to the Aged Care Act 2024 – Understanding and adapting
This module aims to assist you, your family, and caregivers in grasping the changes that will be enacted under the new Aged Care Act effective 1 November 2025.
Duration: This course is projected to take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
In this learning module, you will learn about:
- changes throughout your aged care journey
- the importance of understanding ageism
- your rights in care
- the anticipated structure of aged care services
- how to access aged care
- ensuring quality and safety in care
- decision-making and empowerment
- advocating for yourself and ensuring safety.
Module 1 is available to complete now.

Module 2: Aligning to changes – implementing the Aged Care Act 2024
This module will help you comprehend:
- your rights in everyday care
- the timeline for the new changes
- the steps you need to take to prepare.
Duration: This course is estimated to take around 30 minutes to complete.
This learning module will help you comprehend:
- understanding your rights in care
- supporting the needs of all older people
- decision-making, with or without support – your choice, your control
- accessing government-funded aged care services
- key changes to residential aged care
- Significant modifications to in-home aged care
- Managing complaints and expressing concerns.
Module 2 is currently available for completion.

Module 3: What good care looks like in practice
This module will help you understand how your rights are put into action in everyday care and services. It will also empower you to recognise best practice, speak up about concerns and make informed choices in an aged care system that is changing to better support you.
