To help protect older Australians from scams and improve confidence in digital communication, My Aged Care has introduced verified text messages.
The new verification feature, introduced from July 2026, is designed to make it easier for people to recognise genuine text messages from My Aged Care and reduce the risk of scam messages that imitate government communications.
What Has Changed?
Under the new system:
- official text messages from My Aged Care will display the sender name “MyAgedCare”;
- verified messages may be used to provide updates about aged care services and related matters;
- messages that do not display verified branding may appear as “Unverified” on supported devices; and
- recipients are encouraged to verify any message they are unsure about before clicking links or sharing personal information.
The changes are intended to help older Australians identify legitimate communications more easily while improving protection against increasingly sophisticated scams.
Staying Safe from Scam Messages
Scam text messages continue to target Australians by impersonating trusted organisations.
If you receive a message claiming to be from My Aged Care but are uncertain whether it is genuine, the Australian Government recommends contacting My Aged Care directly before clicking any links, responding to the message or providing personal information.
Taking a few moments to verify a message can help protect your personal information and reduce the risk of fraud.
